In its first year of existence, the Oxygen Icebreakers program aims to give girls the same developmental start in the game of hockey that the boys get. The five-week hockey experience leads the girls through on-ice instruction with Niagara University women’s hockey head coach Margot Page and Nichols hockey head coach Sara Gelman. The Icebreaker participants are then treated to tours of the Purple Eagles facility and tickets to a NCAA Division I hockey game. The program culminates with an on-ice scrimmage at HSBC Arena, tickets to a Sabres game and recognition of the participants on the ice.
